The beautiful picture that you see is our vision (we call it Eden) of the first grasses that appeared on the earth over 40 million years ago in the Oligocene epoch. We found that taking a few clues from nature (a long time ago) was the best path to a beautiful St. Augustinegrass (or St. Augustine Grass) lawn.

Back then, before the days of sprinkler systems, fertilizers, lawnmowers and chemicals, grasses relied on the two most important ingredients for survival; oxygen in the root zone and moisture. Unfortunately, today, most people overlook or never knew that roots need oxygen to breath (carry out the Respiration process) to allow the plant to consume the food created by Photosynthesis. Thus, most lawns are maintained by concentrating on the topside (and ignoring what’s underneath). Is it surprising that people attack their weed, insect and brown grass problems by throwing water and chemicals at the top?

Note about the author - Bob Imbrigiotta founded the Bulletproof Lawn Company in 2001. He is a chemical engineering graduate from the University of Florida. Bob received a patent in 2003 for his invention, Greens Maintenance System from the US Patent Office (#6,547, 488). Bob is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and worked previously in South Florida industry for 20 years for a fortune 500 company.
